We all remember the season one finale very well. Jane taken hostage, being held at gunpoint as she is drug out of the police station. Cut to the street, Frost, Korsak and the rest of the squad can do nothing but look on and hope for the best. The camera slows down. You see Frost and Korsak, the looks of shock and terror frozen on their faces. Now to the doors of the station, Maura comes running out of the doors. The only thing you hear is her yelling "Jane!" Cut to Jane. The looks of sheer terror on her face. You see her hands reach up, grabbing the gun pointed at her temple. She brings it down to her side and fires. The camera zooms out and you see the bullet go through her and the dirty cop that had taken her hostage. They fall. Zoom in on Jane's face; you see her eyes open, the look of shock and horror reaching your deepest core through the TV screen. Her eyes close, and the screen goes dark.
At the end of season one, we knew the show was coming back. Since the show was coming back, we knew Jane was going to survive, but what we didn't know was how that event was going to effect her career and her personal life. It left us wondering if she was going to be the same bad-ass cop she was in season one or if the event was going to give her a different outlook on life and on her career. We also didn't know if Frankie was going to survive his injuries going into season two, leaving us wondering what was going to play out in the season two premiere.
Now lets go to the end of season two; to the winter finale. Maura's mom is still in the hospital with severe injuries from the hit and run. Jane and the team know that Patty Doyle is back in town and ready to go to extreme lengths to protect his biological daughter. Agent Gabriel Dean is back in Jane's life and becomes more involved than he should be. After Jane tells him about Doyle, you knew that it wasn't going to end well.
When Maura goes into the warehouse to set a trap for the arsonist, you could sense that something was about to happen. You see her walking through the ashes with the floor plans. Jane and Frost are hiding behind a wall while Korsak and Frankie are waiting outside. Suddenly, Dean appears. Then all hell breaks loose.
The fireman, Kevin Flynn, pulls a gun and is about to shoot Maura when suddenly, out of no where, Doyle appears and shoots him. Dean jumps out from behind the wall and yells at Doyle, then shoots him in the upper right chest near his shoulder.Doyle fires back and Dean goes down. Leaving us to wonder if he has been hit.
Jane and Frost come out from behind the wall. Jane points her gun up to where Doyle is standing, you hear Maura scream NO, and Jane fires. She hits Doyle in the left abdomen, which sends him backwards over the railing, falling to the ground. Maura rushes to his side with Jane quickly following behind. Jane takes off her jacket and goes to put it over Doyle's wounds. Maura screams "Don't touch him! No, I mean it, Don't you dare touch him! Jane looks stunned and the screen goes black.
We know Jane and Maura's relationship is ruined after this, but we don't know how bad. Will they ever be friends again? Or is their relationship gone for good? We will have to wait and see. Tune in June 5th to TNT and see what happens next.
Until next time,
